The much-awaited release of the South Indian film “Salaar” on Netflix has been confirmed, with the digital rights being sold for a whopping Rs 162 crore in all five languages. The film’s theatrical success since its December 22 release has intensified anticipation for its digital release. Directed by Prashanth Neel, “Salaar: Ceasefire – Part 1” boasts of a star-studded cast, which includes Prabhas, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Shruti Haasan, Jagapathi Babu, Bobby Simha, Tinnu Anand, Easwari Rao, and Sriya Reddy, among others.
While the release date of the film on Netflix remains speculative, rumors suggest that it might be released in January, possibly coinciding with Sankranthi on January 12. However, neither the filmmakers nor Netflix has provided any official confirmation on the same. According to the usual rule, a movie can only be released on an OTT platform 45 days after its theatrical release. However, if the movie is still running in theatres, then the digital platform must wait until the end of its theatrical run.
The digital deal for “Salaar” sets a record as the highest-ever OTT deal for a South Indian film. Fans are eagerly waiting for the film’s release on Netflix, and they are also looking forward to its television premiere on the Star Maa channel. With an impressive collection of Rs 90 crore on its domestic premiere day and a global total of Rs 178 crore, the film’s box office success is evident.
Reportedly made with a budget of Rs 270 crore, “Salaar” has become a box-office powerhouse, amassing a reported Rs 391 crore to date at the domestic box office.
