Motorola has launched the Moto G64 5G, a successor to last year’s Moto G54 5G. This new addition to the G series aims to capture the premium budget segment with its slight improvements and the world’s first MediaTek Dimensity 7025 SoC. After using the phone extensively for two weeks, here’s my take on the Moto G64 5G.
Moto G64 5G Price in India
The Moto G64 5G is available in India for Rs. 13,999 (8GB + 128GB variant) and Rs. 15,999 (12GB + 256GB variant). Our review unit is the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage variant. The phone comes in three color options: Ice Lilac, Mint Green, and Pearl Blue. We received the Mint Green variant.
Eco-Friendly Packaging
Motorola continues its eco-friendly approach by shipping the Moto G64 in a plastic-free box, although it includes a plastic/silicone case. The box also contains a SIM ejector tool, USB Type-A to Type-C cable, and a 33W fast charging adapter.
Design and Build
The Moto G64 5G retains a similar design to its predecessor, the Moto G54 5G, with a few tweaks. This year, there’s no Black color option. The phone features a plastic frame with power and volume buttons on the right, a SIM tray on the left, and a microphone at the top. The bottom houses a 3.5mm headphone port, USB Type-C port, a second microphone, and a speaker.
The plastic rear panel has a glossy finish, creating a pattern when light hits it. The rectangular camera module at the back protrudes, causing the phone to wobble when laid flat. The front is protected by a Gorilla Glass panel with thick bezels and a hole-punch cutout for the front camera. The phone weighs 192g and is 8.9mm thick, similar to the Moto G54, and has an IP52 rating for dust and water resistance.
Specifications and Software
The Moto G64 5G is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7025 SoC, paired with the IMG BXM-8-256 GPU, up to 12GB LPDDR4X RAM, and 256GB UFS 2.2 storage, expandable via microSD card. The phone supports 14 5G bands, dual SIM with a Hybrid SIM tray, Bluetooth 5.3, dual-band Wi-Fi, GPS, NFC, a 3.5mm headphone port, FM Radio, and USB Type-C.
The side-mounted fingerprint scanner integrated into the power button works efficiently. The phone has a 6,000mAh battery supporting 33W fast charging and runs on Android 14-based My UX, with Motorola promising an Android 15 update and three years of security updates. The software includes Family Space 2.0, Moto Secure, Game Mode, and various Moto apps, along with uninstallable bloatware.
Performance
The Moto G64 5G, with its MediaTek Dimensity 7025 SoC, performs decently in daily tasks. It scored 494,364 points on AnTuTu and 1012 (single-core) and 2403 (multi-core) on Geekbench. The 6.5-inch IPS LCD display offers a 120Hz refresh rate, full-HD+ resolution, 240Hz sampling rate, and HDR10 support, but struggles with brightness outdoors.
The hybrid dual-speaker setup provides good audio quality but lacks bass. Call quality is excellent, and the phone manages heat well during gaming, app usage, and charging. Graphic-intensive games run smoothly at medium settings, while casual games perform without issues.
Battery Life
The Moto G64 5G’s 6,000mAh battery easily lasts two days with normal use. In our HD video loop test, it provided around 16 hours of screen-on time. Heavy users can expect about a day and a half. Charging from 0 to 100% takes approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes with the 33W fast charger.
Camera Performance
The Moto G64 5G features a dual rear camera setup with a 50MP primary sensor (f/1.8, quad pixel binning, OIS) and an 8MP ultra-wide camera with auto-focus. The front houses a 16MP selfie camera. The camera app includes Pro and Night modes, among others.
Daylight photos from the main camera are good, though colors can be oversaturated, and details diminish upon zooming. The ultra-wide camera performs well in good lighting but shows color inconsistencies and fewer details. The selfie camera captures decent daylight images but may blur occasionally.
Low light photos from the main camera are decent with Night mode but suffer from noise without it. The ultra-wide camera struggles in low light, even with Night mode. Daylight videos are acceptable, though colors are oversaturated, and panning isn’t smooth. The phone records at 1080p and 60fps max, with low-light videos lacking detail.
The Moto G64 5G faces tough competition in its segment, notably from the Realme P1, Redmi Note 13, Vivo T3x, and Samsung Galaxy A15. Despite minor upgrades, the Moto G64 5G stands out with its long battery life, good display, and decent cameras. While not a gaming powerhouse, it handles daily tasks and casual gaming well. For those seeking a reliable budget phone, the Moto G64 5G is an excellent choice.
