Garudan, directed by Arun Varma, is a movie that Malayali audiences have been waiting for, as it provides a thrilling cinematic experience. The film is packed with drama, mass appeal, vindictiveness and the punch that Suresh Gopi movies are famous for. The story revolves around two main characters, Harish and Nishanth, played by Suresh Gopi and Biju Menon, respectively. Suresh Gopi delivers an outstanding performance as Harish, a cop who retires halfway through the movie. Biju Menon impresses with his subtle depiction of Professor Nishanth. Without giving away too much about his role, he is a great choice and has done justice to the character remarkably well.
Garudan Malayalam Movie Review
Garudan is an unforgettable hunt that captivates the audience from the beginning to the end. The cinematographer, Ajay David Kachappilly, has managed to convey the hunter-prey theme that Arun intended through ‘Garudan’ that reverses throughout the film successfully through his frames. At the end of the climactic confrontation where the truth is revealed, a couple of frames in the court stood out.
However, the film has some notable flaws. It drags in the middle, which could have been avoided. Some characters got screen time but were irrelevant to the overall plot or lacked the intensity needed at a turning point in the story. Even Harish’s frenzy was a bit boring after a period, not to mention Iype (played by Siddique) appearing several times in these scenes. While it was necessary to tell the audience the progress, perhaps something a little less obvious would have worked too.
Despite the lag, Garudan manages to keep the audience hooked. The story by Jinesh is appealing, and while it does have some expected elements, it is still a refreshing take on a thriller about a rapist. It doesn’t make the audience cringe as there is a subtlety with which it is carried that makes it palatable for audiences who do not prefer to see gore on-screen.
Overall, Garudan is a satisfying watch that delivers on its promises. Midhun Manuel Thomas faltered with the script at some point, but the movie recovered towards the end. The film’s climax is worth the wait, and the punch it delivers will leave the audience satisfied.
