The Indian cinema industry has recently seen the release of two highly-anticipated films, Salaar and Dunki. Salaar is an action-thriller film featuring Prabhas in the lead role, while Dunki is a comedy-drama film starring Shah Rukh Khan, Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, and Boman Irani.
According to the latest reports from industry tracker Sacnilk, Dunki has already sold over two lakh tickets at national multiplex chains, PVR-INOX and Cinepolis. The film has also raked in an impressive Rs 15.41 crore in advance sales. Furthermore, Dunki is expected to earn between Rs 38 crore and Rs 40 crore on its opening day, making it a blockbuster hit.
On the other hand, Salaar has also been creating quite a buzz since its announcement. The film has sold more than 14 lakh tickets in India for its Friday release across 10,434 shows. The Telugu version alone has collected Rs 23.50 crore in advance bookings, indicating that the film is set to be a commercial success.
However, the makers of Salaar have recently faced some challenges in the South Indian markets. Due to unfair screen sharing with Dunki, the Salaar team decided to withdraw the film’s release from multiplex chains in the region.
Trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan criticized the unfair screen sharing between the two films and revealed that the Hombale team is planning to take stern action against Ajay Bijli and PVR-Inox.
It is also worth noting that Dunki is Shah Rukh Khan’s third film this year and was released in Hindi. Conversely, Salaar will be released in four languages- Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam.
Finally, it is important to mention that Prabhas, the lead actor of Salaar, has been struggling to find success in his post-Baahubali career. His recent films like Saaho, Radhe Shyam, and Adipurush have failed to live up to the expectations of the audience. Hence, the success of Salaar is quite crucial for him.
