Tips to Trek Velliangiri Hills Coimbatore: The Velliyangiri Hills, located in Coimbatore, is an ideal pilgrimage site for Shiva devotees. It is also one of the most challenging trekking routes in the region. As an experienced trekker, I would like to share some useful tips that will help you make the most of your trekking experience in the Velliyangiri Hills.
Tips to Trek Velliangiri Hills Coimbatore
The Best Time to Trek
This trekking route is only accessible from February to May. During this period, you can visit the Hilltop Shiva Temple, but entry is restricted during other months due to various reasons, including weather conditions. Therefore, plan your trek according to this period. I suggest starting your trek early in the morning or after 7 o’clock to avoid sunlight and trek with energy.
Avoid Plastic
The Velliyangiri Hills is a plastic-free area, which means you should avoid bringing plastic items on your trek. Pack your snacks, water, and other energy-giving items in different types of packages. At the beginning of the trekking route, the forest officers do not allow plastic items to maintain a plastic-free environment. So, it’s better to avoid plastic items to keep the environment clean.
Use Public Transportation
The Velliangiri Hills Trekking Point is located 35 km away from the Coimbatore Bus Stand. The road facility is excellent, but during the season time, it’s difficult to find parking at the trekking point. Using public transport is very flexible and convenient to carry trekking items and reach the location. After the trekking, you may feel tired, and it’s not safe to drive. So, I suggest visiting using public transport.
Carry Enough Snacks and Water
The trekking route covers 7 hills and takes around 9 hours to complete. Each hill has its struggles and challenges. So, don’t forget to carry enough snacks, energy-giving items, and water. Finding the water source is too hard on this trekking route. We were only able to find natural water at the 3rd hill. The cost of snacks and water at the shops on the trekking route is expensive. So, try to carry eatable items for your trek.
Be Prepared for Challenging Weather Conditions
The weather conditions are unpredictable while trekking, and the changing weather is one of the beauties of this trekking route. You may experience misty clouds, rainy weather, and extremely cold weather. Bring clothes, jackets, bedsheets, and other necessary items to fight with the weather conditions.
Bring the Necessary Items for Trekking
Before your trek, you need to carry necessary items such as trekking shoes, trekking sticks, bedsheets, torch lights (if you trek at night), and jackets to fight the weather.
Be Careful While Trekking
The trekking route covers 7 hills, and each hill offers a unique and challenging experience. Some parts of the route may be slippery during rainy weather. During the season time, you may face a crowd while trekking, so be patient and careful while trekking and taking selfies. These are some tips that I gained from my personal experience of trekking in the Velliyangiri Hills. I hope these tips will help you make the most of your trekking experience, and you’ll be able to create unforgettable memories.
