Velliangiri Hills offers a unique spiritual Trekking experience for all. Here, I will share my journey.
Trip Started – Velliangiri Hills
My friend and I embarked on a trip to a hillside location. We took a bus from the Gandhipuram bus stand in Coimbatore and purchased the necessary items for our trekking adventure. There are frequent buses available from Gandipuram, with more during peak season.
I chose to use public transportation due to the difficulty in finding parking for our vehicles. Additionally, after we trekked, we would not have been able to drive for long periods.
Upon arrival at the hillside, we bought walking sticks for trekking at a cost of approximately 30 rupees. We began our journey at 8:30 p.m. Before entering the hill station, there was a security check. Plastic is banned in this location, so we ensured that we carried snacks by the rules.
Trekking Started – First Hill
We embarked on our trek with a large crowd, as there was plenty of prey to be found. I initially assumed that the journey would be effortless, but it proved to be quite challenging. Our trek involved crossing seven hills, and we finally caught a glimpse of the Shiva Linga after successfully crossing them all.
To begin our ascent, we first had to conquer a steep hill with numerous stone steps. As there was no light on the path, it was advisable to bring a torch. I preferred trekking at night, as we tend to have more energy and the view from the hilltop is stunning. However, we need to be cautious of the crowded and slippery steps. After trekking for an hour and a half, we finally completed the first hill.
As we approached the entrance of the second hill, we came across a Vinayak Temple and a few shops. It’s worth noting that the shops located along the way charge exorbitant prices. The first hill was particularly challenging due to the hard stone steps.
Second Hill
After climbing the first hill, I rested for a while because it was very difficult and my legs and hands started to ache. I drank some energy drinks and had some snacks to boost my energy before facing the second hill.
The second hill was a relief for my legs and I could breathe in fresh oxygen. The view of Coimbatore city and the stars was unbelievable. Since there was no network, I switched off my mobile and put it in my bag to enjoy nature at night. On the way, I encountered people returning from the hilltop, so I gave way to them because their pain was harder than ours. I also offered them some water and snacks to help them.
After one kilometre, the second hill started to get difficult, but I began to enjoy the challenge and the cold weather made my body sweat. We completed the second hill and took some rest before entering the third. Along the way, there were many shops selling coffee and tea, but they were too expensive.
Third Hill
Before reaching the third hill, there is a natural water source that can be found in the rocks. Many believe that this water has healing properties, so it is often brought home by visitors. It is advisable to refill your water bottle before continuing your trek.
When climbing the third hill, it is important to be cautious with every step. Many slippery rocks can cause accidents. I recommend carefully tracking your steps and moving slowly in this area.
Fourth Hill
Before reaching the 4th hill, we stumbled upon the Pampatti Sithar Kugai. I received a blessing from Pam Patti Sither before beginning my trek up the fourth hill. This hill can be confusing, so it’s important to travel safely. I can’t recall how long it took me to reach the top because I wasn’t checking my phone. However, the view of Coimbatore city from the fourth hill was breathtaking, especially the starry sky. Despite the pains of the trek, the view made it worthwhile. I found a good spot to rest and slept for a while using my blankets to stay warm. It’s important to pack blankets and other weather-appropriate gear for your trek. We had a good night’s sleep and resumed our journey. We successfully conquered the fourth hill.
Fifth Hill
We found relaxation during our trip while trekking Fifth Hill. Crossing this path was effortless, allowing us to handle the unpredictable weather conditions. It’s important to prepare for the challenging Seventh Hill after taking a break on Fifth Hill. Upon reaching the end of Fifth Hill, we discovered a water source where we could bathe. Additionally, we found the Shiva Linga located in the middle of the water source. It is believed that bathing in this water can cure physical ailments. Despite the cold weather and water, I had a wonderful experience while bathing here. Overall, the Fifth Hill was a great experience.
Sixth Hill
After a refreshing bath, we tackled the challenge of the sixth hill, which proved to be as easy as the fifth. The early morning brought a delightful mist that enveloped us, and we felt the raindrops from the nearby cloud. It was truly a beautiful experience.
Seventh Hill – Velliangiri Hills
This hill was more challenging than the ones we previously tackled. We could only manage four steps at a time and found it quite arduous. However, during our trek, we were uplifted by the sound of bells coming from the temple at the top of the hill. It gave us the energy we needed to push through and complete the climb, but we advise caution when attempting this hill. Finally, after a great effort, we reached the temple at the hilltop and had a brief view of the Shiva Linga. We received a soulful blessing before deciding to head back down. I checked my mobile and realized it was already 7:15 a.m.
Return Experience – Velliangiri Hills
As we returned from the hill, the rain began to pour down. The path became more challenging, and we had to be careful not to slip. Despite the difficult terrain, we managed to take some amazing pictures and videos. Unfortunately, the snacks we brought with us were finished, so we had to purchase some fruits from expensive shops. We finally reached the bottom of the hill at 2:30 p.m., and we enjoyed a meal at the temple before concluding the trip. This spiritual trek gave me a sense of inner peace and taught me how to face the challenges of life.
